She comes from Tupelo, Mississippi, which is widely known for its literary heritage and is also the birthplace of Elvis Presley. “Tupelo’s expanding a lot, which is fun to see,” says Lilee. “My parents always taught me to dream big,” she continues. So, she engaged with the business world early on, joining a well-known business leaders club in high school called DECA. The club prepares emerging leaders, focusing on careers in marketing, finance, and management.
Through DECA, Lilee participated in competitions by putting together sales and marketing pitches and presenting them to community business leaders. She enjoyed challenging her creative side as well and specialized in marketing management through the program. In addition, she did a lot of community service with the Salvation Army in high school. She would visit various schools, reading to kindergartners and first graders in her community and thought about becoming a teacher, but decided to pursue her original dream.
Her second love is fashion. She worked in retail throughout high school and college. Lilee is fascinated with the history behind clothing and fashion, as well as, the stories of various well-known designers. Her mom played a big role in influencing this passion. “Not only did she work in retail, but she expressed her personality through fashion and clothes,” says Lilee, “It’s something we share.”
Her favorite city? New York, the home of both advertising and fashion. Lilee says she has been more times than she can count and hopes to return soon. After all, there is nothing quite like the Fashion District or Madison Avenue. Two icons with storied histories that are known and respected the world over.
When it comes to work, she takes a lead from her parents, two of the most hardworking people she’s known. They also taught her how to be a good person in life. Two very valuable traits to carry forward in working life.
Lilee has followed Maycreate since she attended college at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga where she received her BS in Business Administration & Marketing. She not only kept up with the agency’s creative work, but after reading the bios of those who worked here, she concluded they were individuals who enjoyed what they did and had a life outside of work. So, Maycreate was the first place she reached out to. And the rest is history.
