Clients and Gratitude are Always in Season

 Monty Wyne

Two simple words, “Thank You,” can do wonders for your business. Expressing customer appreciation benefits both your work environment and your customer relationships. It sends a “people are important” message to those on your team and can result in greater customer retention and future growth through referrals. What follows are a few ideas to get you started on your path to customer appreciation.

Something to Note

Why not send a meaningful “thank you” to your customer? Put down your mobile phone. Shut down your computer for the time being. And send your client a thoughtful handwritten thank you card. Emails and texts lack that personal touch.

Take a little time to think about what you’re going to say. What’s special about this person and what does that mean to you? How does that particular customer make a real difference to you, versus your business? Remember, unlike an email or a text that can be quickly forgotten or deleted, the card is a tangible gesture of your sincere appreciation.

An Unexpected Gift

Want to make a lasting impression? How about a thoughtful gift? This gift may or may not be something to do with your business. It might reflect what you truly appreciate about this person. Let’s say you own a bookstore and one of your frequent customers has a favorite author. What if you gave that person an autographed copy of the author’s latest book?

Then again, you might know something special about your customer that’s not related to your business. Maybe you’ve heard them talk about their charitable nature. One day you ask them matter-of-factly what charities they support and by any chance, do they have a favorite? Once you have the answer, make a donation. It’s something they’ll appreciate and remember for years to come.

The Big Save

If there is one thing that is important to your customers right now, it’s saving money. With inflation driving up the cost of goods and services, here’s your opportunity to demonstrate to them you appreciate their business and want to help them during this challenging time.

Here’s one idea that says we value your business– send a card of appreciation that also offers them a significant discount on their next purchase. Or, to make customers feel extra special, give them exclusive perks. This could involve membership discounts or VIP passes to special events. Chances are customers will continue to support your business so they can take advantage of the benefits and perks offered.
