The Business of Doing Good

Gandhi said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,” and from the very beginning, Maycreate has sought to make community work part of its blueprint. Serving the community in which we work and live is an essential part of how we choose to operate.

“When Erin and I started Maycreate two decades ago, we both agreed helping non-profits would be a priority. We’ve offered pro-bono or reduced-rate services to more than forty non profits since 2003,” Brian May, President & Executive Creative Director, said. “Thomas Watson once said, ‘Good design is good business.’ If it’s good for business, it must be good for the business of doing good.”

In the same way we feel a responsibility to do our best work for each client, we too feel a responsibility to actively lift up our Chattanooga community in whatever ways we can. This often involves leaning on the skills we’ve developed in the agency setting to help local non profits further their messaging, garner funds and volunteers, introduce new programs, and bring their community-forward goals to life more effectively.

“We have lived in much bigger cities and have always marveled at how generous Chattanooga is in comparison,” Erin May, Media Strategist, said. “Philanthropy is a distinct part of the Chattanooga business and social culture, whether that means attending a fundraising dinner, walk or golf tournament, spending the day at the local Food Bank or being a big brother or sister. We offer our time for non-profits that ask, but we also highly value the relationships we’ve been able to build with these organizations throughout the years.”

Taking on these community-centered projects helps us stay connected and gives us opportunities to help further local initiatives that promote economic development, cultural awareness, education, health, and even the arts, right here in our own neighborhood. We also believe these projects make us more well-rounded, more plugged in, and more empathetic creatives. At the end of the day, all of this positions us to make even better work together.
